Polyvagel Theory, Created by Dr. Stephen Porges, explains the autonomic nervous systems (ANS) role in regulating our physiological and emotional responses. It consists of 2 branches, the sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system. This theory provides a framework to shaping the ANS’s role with our response to stress and social interactions. This work gives valuable insight into creating appropriate strategies to shift from stress or shutdown to regulation and connection.
