What is the Safe and Sound Protocol?

Safe and Sound Protocol (also known as SSP) is a therapeutic listening intervention based on Polyvagel Theory that aims to support nervous system regulation. The protocol uses calibrated, filtered music to gently stimulate the vagal pathways associated with safety and connection. SSP is delivered in structured, titrated listening sessions, either in person or remotely with clinical monitoring to ensure appropriate pacing and stabilization. Clients often demonstrate improvements in emotional regulation, sensory processing, and stress response. SSP protocol is useful on its own and with modalities such as EMDR and somatic therapies. Many clients notice improvements in emotional regulation, anxiety, focus, and overall sense of safety in everyday life.
